AboutYo, it's Lara aka Rivet Licker. I'm your average alternative, blue haired weirdo, (actual) nerd from Sydney, Australia. I'm a 26 year old flesh unit. I haven't really changed my hair since 2012, except the cut. My name is known throughout the fake hair world because I taught a lot of people how to make synthetic dreads, and still do, click on my YouTube link above to see me in all my High Def glory! I used to make and sell dreads, then quit for reasons.
If inspiration porn really hits the heart strings of the general public; here is my story.
I have Lupus. It is an incurable autoimmune disease that affects my connective tissue, skin and nervous system, causing joint pain, chronic fatigue and systemic difficulties. It is caused when the immune system, which is responsible for fighting off foreign bodies, instead, attacks they body’s own cells. Treatment for this disease can have more side effects than the disease itself and some medications used are immunosuppressive, like azathioprine, typically used as an organ anti rejection drug, to slow down the immune system’s attack of tissue. This in turn, leads to longer periods of bacterial and viral infections, poor healing of wounds and other systemic and dermatological issues.
I was diagnosed officially in 2012, but symptoms had started appearing as early as childhood. Investigation began in 2003. I missed lots of school and was seeing a doctor every few weeks ever since. I take 8 tablets minimum per day. I had a wonderful job when the disease progressed and left me desperate for rest, along with putting me on a disability pension.
I have been out of work for four years because of the disease’s prolonged activity. I have studied and attained a trade qualification in this time, along with maintaining a social media presence and volunteering at an animal shelter, raising some much needed funding.
I also have been battling with depression and anxiety for as long as I can remember.
Because I’m so brave and inspirational for fighting this disease, I’d like the following:
*My own car so I can get to places I need to go without my parents getting all flustered.
*My house to be renovated into a larger complex with a dedicated crafting room/studio.
*Cruelty free makeup and skincare to take care of my dermatological issues.
*Blepharoplasty for the redundant saggy skin on my eyelids.
*Free food for a year, so I can save the little money I get from the government.
*A holiday somewhere nice, preferably overseas.
*A pro audio servicing job with an employer that can allow me to work flexible hours, when I am not flaring.
*Either cough up the above shit or stop calling disabled people inspiring for doing everyday shit that healthy/able bodied people do and pigeonholing chronically ill people as lazy.
Fuck you, media.
